Patience

Ephesians 4:2 “Always be humble and gentle, be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”, There seems to be two kinds of people in the world: those that are never in a hurry and those that are always in a hurry.  The hurried person is already buckled into the car while their unhurried family member wanders around the house looking for their homework, shoes, lunch. Maybe even getting into the car without these…

I Choose God’s Freedom

Recently I was on greyhound to visit my friend in Monroe!  On the way home I had the same bus driver and his son riding along.  The son is about 15ish. We were on our last stop of the day, and the Driver Dad and son were funning with each other.  They were laughing and joking with one another.  In the middle of all of this a passenger got on the bus.  There wasn’t room for the three of them…

SFNAZ Devotional 10/13/2022

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. John 1:1-2 (NIV) We live a life full of change, some good and some bad. The seasons change. I love that we live in an area that enjoys the experience of all four seasons. I am enjoying the crisp cool morning and evenings and the warm afternoons. The leaves move through their process of change yet my flowers…

Be Ready

On one particular Friday I was headed home to get ready for a party we were attending, and then I thought about a Church Family that was at Holy Family. I really need to stop and see them. It won’t take that long! I pull into the parking lot and go inside. I stop at the front counter which everyone has to do because of Covid. At Providence, if you are Clergy and can prove it, then you don’t count…

FOLLOWING CHRIST’S EXAMPLE

Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it…

The Bible

To help me in this devotional I had to get my mom’s Bible out. It’s never too far away. This Bible was given to my mom in 1952. I have 2 pictures in the Bible. Both pictures are Black and white. One is of Mom with this Bible. The other one is of Dad and Mom, and they are both Christians. It’s a big deal to have this picture. It was always supposed to be my Bible, but my oldest…

Deep Waters

Isaiah 43:2, NLT 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.     This scripture can be interpreted in so many different ways. There is so much comfort in each of these words. There is a lot of fear, feeling overwhelmed, lost, and anxiety when thinking…

Hope in Jeremiah

I have been stuck in my Bible reading. The longer I am stuck the more questions I have. I have been reading in Jeremiah. He is called the “weeping prophet” because he literally wept over Judah. Jeremiah stays faithful to God through 40 years and 5 kings. The five kings were Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. Jeremiah learned first-hand from Josiah who tried to reinstate the old laws of Israel. God said that Josiah was a good king. Jeremiah’s…

SFNAZ Devotional – 8/11/22

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4    One of Hannah’s chickens hatched some babies this week and watching the babies scurry under her wings for comfort and warmth is such a cool thing to watch. Without her to protect them their little lives would be short.  Each day they seem to come out from under her wings and explore a little more.…

IN WITH THE NEW-OUT WITH THE OLD, MAYBE?

You know how it is when things in the house start breaking. It would be easier if each of us could get new appliances every 5 years. I say 5 years because you are lucky if your small appliances last that long. The last toaster I bought was a cheapie one from Walmart. I think I paid $5.   When I bought the last toaster oven I put my $5 toaster away, just in case.  Sure enough, the toaster oven quit…

Grace

When you look up the word grace in Christian terms, you generally find it defined as “God’s favor toward the unworthy” or “ God’s benevolence on the undeserving.” Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 2 Timothy 1:9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.…

My Go-To Scripture

As I sit here writing this devotional, I think of how many times I ponder my go-to Scripture.  We each have several, but I have one that steps out in front of the others. The Scripture is: John 14:1- Don’t let your heart be troubled. You Believe in God; believe also in me. I know. You hear it at every Memorial.  It was spoken at all three Memorials in June.  In fact, at my ordination review, Reverend Jim Clifton, ask…
