To Forever in the Future . . .

To Forever in the Future . . .

A prayer of Moses, the man of God:  “Lord, you have been our help, generation after generation.  Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world- from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.”  Psalm 90:1-2

This is the only “song of Moses” in the Psalm, but there are two others (Exodus 15 and Deuteronomy 32) as well as the blessings he gives the tribes of Israel, also in Deuteronomy.

Moses has been through some tough things along the way.  1) the death of Miriam, Moses’ sister; 2) the sin of Moses in striking the rock in the wilderness, which kept him from entering the Promised Land; and 3) the death of Aaron, Moses’ brother.

He’s gone through some significant change and loss in his life, but his song/prayer in Psalm 90 continues to say strongly that God has been our help generation after generation.  He goes on to say, “From forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.”

Moses is finding refuge in the eternal God!  “You have been our help generation after generation.”  Think about it!  In all the years Israel lived in constant need of refuge, shelter, and protection, it was provided for them.  Not JUST their physical needs but their dwelling place.

When I think about this past year and a half I am overcome with the knowledge that my God who has helped His people throughout the generations is still present, accounted for, and working on our behalf!

The last phrase fills my heart with great joy and hope.  Not only has the Living God been with His people for many generations, He isn’t going to be going anywhere now, in OUR time of great need.

Forever God.
