The Light

The Light

For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light. For the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.  Ephesians 5:8,9

Do you ever have a day, week, month where you feel like you are in the fog? Searching for the light, it is there but hard to see. There are so many reasons in life where we as Christians find ourselves in that place.

This week we had the opportunity to spend a couple of days on the coast. We had some days that were bright and sunny, it felt so great. Then there was a morning that you could hardly see 20 feet in front of you, the fog was so thick. That morning I told the kids I was going to walk down the beach to find a lighthouse.  I love lighthouses, this particular lighthouse only served for three years in the late 1800’s. It got us talking about the purpose of a lighthouse and how bright of a light it had to have been to be seen so far.

The lighthouse is still standing but without a light keeper.   It is just a cool place to see.  The light keeper is the resident of the lighthouse who makes sure the light never goes out no matter what. Whether there are rough seas, hurricanes, blizzards the light keeper cares for that light to make sure it continuously shines.

Being the light in the Lord as the scripture says comes with big and exciting opportunities. We are His light keeper, but our job is not to keep that light to ourselves, but let that light shine into the entire world, while keeping it safe.   How are you going to let your light shine?

This song is so simple and one we all know. Sing it today as a reminder to share your light, if you’re in the fog step out and find the light.

This little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
Oh, this little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine.

This little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

All around the neighborhood
I’m going to let it shine
All around the neighborhood
I’m going to let it shine
All around the neighborhood.

I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m going to let it shine.

Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m going to let it shine
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

Don’t let Satan [blow] it out!
I’m going to let it shine
Don’t let Satan [blow] it out!
I’m going to let it shine
Don’t let Satan [blow] it out!
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine!

What a timely devotional! Our Rockwood Chaplain and I were singing that song in our weekly Bible Study this week! Your thought about fog are very relevant to Jim’s & my current situation as well. He’s getting stronger but still needs a lot of help. Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
