The Foundation of Prayer

The Foundation of Prayer

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Luke 11:1-2 NKJV

Jesus’ first words were Our Father. He wanted the 12 and all who would come after to know that God truly is our Father and that we are to surrender our lives to our God who deeply loves us. We are to hallow His name because He is holy, and He is God!

How do you hallow or honor Him? When you pray do you open your heart and mind to the Almighty and bow in His Presence? I am rediscovering our posture in prayer is important in how we connect with Him through prayer. Do you confess His Holiness, honor Him, worship Him, and magnify His Name whenever you pray? Do you confess your sin before Him? Is He the one sitting on the throne of your life, and do you humble yourself in His Presence? Our God and our God alone is the Most High God, and He alone is worthy. We are to worship Him with our hearts and our mouths, bless Him, and bow before Him.

“Your kingdom come” means we are to seek God’s face before we seek God’s hand by waiting before Him in His Presence, respecting His Holiness, and reverencing His countenance. It means caring more about having a relationship with Him than worrying about what He is going to do for us.

“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In this sentence lies the secret to living a victorious life. Jesus is encouraging us to look into the spiritual world first and see how things are done in heaven. He is declaring that this world is subject to heaven’s authority. Remember His parting words in Matthew 28, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Praying with the mindset that as it is in heaven is foundational to our prayer life because, in heaven, God’s will is the ONLY will considered. In heaven, God’s supernatural power is revealed. Therefore, as Believers, we must believe it can be the same on earth.
