“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Acts 2:42-43
One of my many joys of ministry is when brothers and sisters in Christ come together for fellowship, breaking of some bread, prayer, and sharing truths that the Holy Spirit has revealed to them as the read and study God’s Word together.
Such is the case every Tuesday as the church staff gathers to discuss our ministries, break bread together, pray for the church and our families, and share what the Holy Spirit is revealing to us as we study God’s Word together. We each have a journal that directs us to Bible passages to read for that day and then journal what the Spirit is saying about how to apply it to our lives. Then we gather and share those revelations and each of us come away from that time a little more challenged and a lot more at peace.
A few years ago, I began to challenge the church where I was serving as a TIPS pastor to partner with two other individuals and read the same chapters in the Bible every day for a week. Then once a week meet at a coffee shop or someplace public and share what God revealed to you as you opened God’s Word. You would then answer a set of questions meant to challenge you in your spiritual growth. For example, one question was, “How has God made His Presence known to you this week?” Then you would pray for each other, your families, and individuals God has impressed upon you who may not be a part of the family of God.
It’s always done in a public place because eventually someone else will notice and ask about what you are doing. That is your opportunity to invite them to join you. If they want to continue meeting with you, one of the original 3 steps out the group and gathers 2 others and starts a new group. That way the study of God’s Word becomes multiplied over and over as the process is repeated.
If you would like more details just give the office a call and schedule an appointment and I will be delighted to help you get started. Until then, keep reading His Word and putting it into practice and sharing what the Spirit is revealing to you whenever the opportunity arises.
Peace be with you,
Pastor John
