This week no doubt has been one like none other in the lives of the world and our church family. Our stories are all very similar; full of uncertainties. I have to be honest when all of this information for “social distancing” came into our lives I became very uneasy and trapped in my head. I was overthinking things and worrying too much. I am a very social human, as most of you know, and putting the limitations on the level of social interactions stirred up stress in my life. As the reality of the news sunk in, I remembered to look for my comfort in the Lord. I began to embrace the uncertainty of the situation and allowed God to help me to shift my thinking beyond myself. In times of uncertainty, we can become so internally focused on ourselves and our own family, we can forget to keep thinking like a church body. This is not what God has called us to do.
God calls us to live out his word, not just keep it for ourselves. God calls us to reflect Him in our relationships with everyone, not just our immediate family. God calls us to help those less fortunate than ourselves, not just thinking of how less fortunate we are now.
Join me today in remembering and embracing the uncertainties of life. It is where God can do His best work! Most of us can pull from our God stories we have over the years to show proof of how God has taken the uncertainties of our life and made them good. If you haven’t yet had that written in your God story that is even more exciting, because this very time we are living in will be that first God story of when you were able to embrace the uncertainty of your life.
As we entered this season of uncertainty I decided to pick up an old devotional I had worked through before called, Made for This by Jennie Allen. The prayer in one of the devotions this week was so powerful for this season of life we are in I thought it would make an impact on all of you as well. As you pray, fill in your name and allow God to help you embrace the uncertainties you face.
You are not of this world, ________. You don’t belong here. You are going to put your feet down every morning in this world, but you don’t belong to it. You don’t adhere to its rule and expectations. You don’t even hope for the same things. Because you know Me and you are Mine, your home, your hope is with Me forever. Your expectations are that your short life here is spent on My mission even if it is costly. (adapted from Made for This by Jennie Allen)
