On one particular Friday I was headed home to get ready for a party we were attending, and then I thought about a Church Family that was at Holy Family. I really need to stop and see them. It won’t take that long! I pull into the parking lot and go inside. I stop at the front counter which everyone has to do because of Covid. At Providence, if you are Clergy and can prove it, then you don’t count as a visitor. Kind of a nice benefit for the family! I pull out my Preacher’s card and show the front desk people; however, both of them know me. We chat a minute and they give me my little blue clergy name tag (instead of a white card) and I head for the elevator.
I visit with the Church family and tell them I will not be up tomorrow. We have quite a bit planned, but I will see you Monday either here or where you will be moved.
I get home and start looking for my preacher’s card and can’t find it anywhere. I take everything out of my purse, and it isn’t there. So, I start looking in the car. It isn’t there either. On Saturday I decide I will have to retrace my steps. Grrr. I wanted to get out early, but that didn’t work. The first place I go is of course Holy Family. They have it. Thank goodness. Since I’m there anyway I check in on our Church family. We all laugh about me not getting my card back and I tell them again, that I will see them next week.
I go by the desk and tell them to have a good weekend and God Bless, which is what I usually do. One of the workers ask me if I would go over and pray for the family of 4 that is sitting near us. Someone is in ER and not doing well, she says, and I don’t know what religion they are? I said it doesn’t matter what religion they are, I will pray for them.
I go over and introduce myself as Pastor Wanda and told them the people at the desk told me that you have someone in ER. Could I pray for you? One gentleman said we can always use another prayer. So, I pray for them and leave my business card, and said call me if I can help. I go back to the desk and tell them good bye and God Bless your weekend.
I started thinking about this. If they wouldn’t have kept my preacher’s card, I wouldn’t have been at Holy Family on Saturday, and wouldn’t have had the privilege to pray for this family. Then I start thinking of Scripture. There is a Scripture to be ready. I found it. 1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
I am so thankful that God uses each of us in His time.
God Bless,
Pastor Wanda
