He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4
One of Hannah’s chickens hatched some babies this week and watching the babies scurry under her wings for comfort and warmth is such a cool thing to watch. Without her to protect them their little lives would be short. Each day they seem to come out from under her wings and explore a little more. The chicks need to start learning to be independent. It has been a great picture for me to ponder on as a parent and as a child of God.
Life is full of times when we all wish we could crawl under a wing for comfort and feel secure. It could be to get away from a rough week, rest from the exhaustion of our day-to-day tasks, escape from the troubles of the world, or just for comfort.
Sometimes we feel like we are the wing. When you see me in the next few weeks, and I’m teary it will be because everything is in relation to taking Gracelyn to collage. It’s a first for us. As a mom I have been able to hold her under “my wing” be the refuge when needed. I know she is ready and has the independence to leave but I like knowing that at the end of the day she is back with me. As parents our job is to nurture our kids to go out into the world and be amazing adults, being the next generation to share Christ with the world. It’s not easy to let go. I am sure our Heavenly Father feels the same, if we always stayed under the wing life is easier but not very fruitful. He wants us to leave, explore, do the hard things, be his hands and feet in the world. The great news is just like I will be waiting for Gracelyn to come home to visit, God faithfully waits for us to need Him so he can cover us with his feathers and tuck us under his wing. He will give us the moment to rest, recharge so we can be ready to face once again whatever the world is ready to throw at us.
Blessings,
