MISSIONS CORNER
SFNaz congregation, I bring you greetings and words of thanks from Dr Stanley Ushe (Africa East Field Strategy Coordinator), DS Augustus Musili (District Superintendent of the Kenya Eastern District) and DS Shadrack Jeza (District Superintendent of the Kenya Costal District).
I had the great privilege of spending the last month serving together with DS Musili and DS Jeza in Kenya. Throughout the month, I was reminded of the continued support Spokane First Nazarene has provided to this region of Africa since 2012. During one Sunday’s church service, Pastor Eunice and Pastor Helen, the pastors of the first two churches SFNaz teams helped construct in 2012, reported that their congregations continue to grow. We were reminded that through the support of multiple teams from SFNaz, the Kenya Eastern District Center was built. It now serves as a safe location for pastors to study, where videos of church services are edited and distributed and where local pastors can come together to plan for the future.
The mission trip was more than just a walk down memory lane. A total of 40 people from across the western US traveled as two separate teams to provide medical care, build churches and share the gospel in Kenya. In total, team members completed construction on two churches, provided medical care for 1,680 patients, distributed over 550 pairs of “The Shoe That Grows” along with hundreds of kids clothing items and shared the Good News leading to hundreds professing their faith in Jesus Christ.
The footprint of the Church of the Nazarene expanded as each team participated in the organization and formation of a new church – Mnaoni Church of the Nazarene and Kanyangi Church of the Nazarene. The pastors and their few congregants were charged by DS Musili to plant another church within the year. That’s why the Church of the Nazarene is growing so rapidly throughout Kenya and eastern Africa.
I have so many stories to tell…stories that will make you laugh and stories that will make you cry… stories of changed lives… stories of physical and spiritual healing… stories of great faith. There are so many stories to tell, but they will have to wait for another time.
Thank you for your continued support of global missions, especially your support for the church in Kenya. Even before returning home, I started making plans to return to Kenya, to return to where our first team camped with the Masai in the Rift Valley.
Respectfully submitted,
Pastor Victor Morrison
