Saul Meets Jesus
A few days ago, I was doing my devotions starting with 1 Thessalonians. It started with Grace and Peace to you. Then I started wondering how many of Paul’s Epistles start with Grace, Peace, or Mercy. All the first chapters of Paul’s letters start with Grace, Peace, or Mercy within the first seven verses. Most within the first 3 verses. The natural thing to wonder is how many end with Grace, Peace, or Mercy. All of them except Romans &…

State of Exhaustion
Last week our family traveled to Nashville to tour colleges as our daughter (Dakota) is in the process of making important decisions regarding her future. We toured three universities, received tons of information, asked questions, and ate their cafeteria food. As we toured the schools Dakota developed opinions about each of them; whether it be the living quarters, quality of the food, impression of the professors, or simply the look of the campus. At the end of each day, we…
Maundy Thursday
The hour has come. The Son of Man will be lifted up. While the betrayer gathers his associates, Jesus offers final words of comfort to the remaining eleven. The Gospel of John offers us a unique glimpse into something sacred: the holy intimacy between the Son and the Father. They are one in mission: to give eternal life- the life of the age to come- expressed in relational knowledge of the Father and Son here and now. As the prayer…
Devotional – August 27, 2020
I am convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.” Romans 8:38-39 The book of Romans is the single longest letter in the New Testament. Paul is writing to “God’s beloved in Rome”. In the first chapters of Romans, Paul has laid out a great…

Lost Causes
3 Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose someone among you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them. Wouldn’t he leave the other ninety-nine in the pasture and search for the lost one until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he is thrilled and places it on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Celebrate with me because I’ve found my lost sheep.’ 7 In the same way, I tell…
Romans 15
This next week is one that will be full of division and hate across the nation. In Romans 15, Paul reminds us of a higher calling: to bear with one another and seek the good of our neighbors. This call to unity is not about suppressing our beliefs but about prioritizing love and understanding over division. He encourages us to bear with one another, recognizing that we all are different but that our goal is being unified by the work of…
