Listening To That Still Small Voice!

Listening To That Still Small Voice!

I was driving down the street one day and suddenly the traffic slowed down considerably. I thought there must be an accident down the way.  I didn’t see any flashing lights or hear any sirens.  Like everyone else, we were slowly creeping forward.

I started watching two boys and their dog.  They were patiently trying to teach the dog how to get use to walking with a leash.  The boy with the leash on the dog would line up the dog where he should be walking to his side. On the second step the dog would try to walk in front of the boy sideways. The boy would stop, guide the dog to his side and take another step, and on the second step the dog would try to step in front of the boy again and the boy would patiently do the same thing over and over again. This was done repeatedly as I was watched while I was stuck on the road.

Such patience of the boy was incredible to me. Why was the boy so patient? Maybe, the boy could imagine that this dog would learn to walk on a leash at his side.

I wonder how many times Jesus does that with us? How many times does the Father put us in line?  Come this way so you can listen to what I say! Sometimes I am too busy to listen. The Father patiently puts us in line so that we can listen to him.

Like the boy with the dog, Jesus does not get mad he simply tells us again, and again, and again. From experience, I am telling you, it is easier to listen the first time.

I think sometimes it is more than lining us up again, like the boy with the dog.  I think we forget to listen to that still quiet voice.  He whispers to us, what He wants us to do. I sometimes get so busy, that the Father might have to do something dramatic to get my attention.  I would rather be in the listening mode the first time. I know sometimes that I forget to listen to Him. I fail more times than I want to admit.

Lord, teach me to be on the alert, and be in the listening mode.  I stand on this Scripture: Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Thank you, Father, for being faithful to me and always showing me the right way.  I humbly accept your lead.

    Yes, Wanda, that is a frequent prayer of mine. Oh,if I could only learn to be truly still and listen!
