Every good present and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father
who made the sun, moon, and stars. The Father doesn’t change like
the shifting shadows produced by the sun and the moon.
James 1:17
Think back to the weeks leading up to Christmas when you were a little child. The anticipation grew each time a new present appeared under the tree. For me, I’d sort, shake, try to peak and take wild guesses at what might be in those beautifully wrapped boxes. Can you remember trying to harness your anticipation until you thought you were going to burst? You knew that each of the presents had been carefully chosen for whoever’s name appeared on the card. Whether it be Christmas Eve or Christmas day, when you were finally allowed to tear into the wrapping paper, you were overjoyed at what was inside! There were some items from your wish list as well as some better-than-imagined surprises. Your parents knew just how to delight their precious child.
And so does Someone else. Just think how even more perfect the gifts are that God showers on each of us. Matthew 7:11 says, “Even though you’re evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. So how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him?” He provides every good and perfect gift and His desire to do so never changes.
What presents has God already wrapped and delivered to you? Imagine Him happily planning the details of surprising you with them, being overjoyed at your reaction. And He’s not finished yet! Begin to look forward to—just as you did during those childhood Christmas seasons—what He has in store for you, His precious child. As you spend each day with your heavenly Father, allow yourself to get lost in the excitement of anticipating what perfect gift He’s preparing just for you. The best part is that these presents from God don’t just come on Christmas day, God’s timing is perfect.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for devoting the same power that created the heavenly bodies into marvelous presents You’ve crafted specifically for me. They are good even beyond my understanding. Thank You for Your steadfast faithfulness and perfection in showing me Your love. Amen
