Eternal Perspective

Eternal Perspective

2 Corinthians 4:18 “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

One of the last conversations my nephew had with his father was about perspective, “Dad, it’s all about your perspective”.  And while my brother-in-law was unable to revive his son, my nephew is now in heaven in the presence of Jesus.  If Jesus gave him a choice of whether to return, he would certainly have chosen to stay. What was our worst day when he “died”, was his best day. It’s all about your perspective, especially when it comes to having an eternal perspective.

We live in dark times of polarization and twisted morality.  I think of Isiah 5:20. First, we were told to be tolerant as evil was presented as good. “Everyone has a right to do whatever they want”, we were told.   It didn’t take long before the second step came, where good was presented as evil. The cancel culture is in full swing as the world rejects many forms of Biblical morality.  Romans 1:18-23 tells us about people who exchange the glory of God for images of mortal things, indicating a similar moral corruption.

While we live in these dark times, we must keep our eyes heavenward.  We have the light and His name is Jesus.  The darkness of our world may trouble us and discourage us, but it must not distract us from having an eternal perspective.  God is in control and there is hope.  Salvation for our world in not found in what mankind can do, but in what God can do. Our world needs revival, America needs revival, Spokane needs revival…  and it starts with us.

I love the bridge in the song “Hosanna” which roughly means “Lord, save us”.

Let this be our eternal perspective and our prayer,

“Heal my heart and make it clean

Open up my eyes to the things unseen

Show me how to love like You have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks Yours

Everything I am for Your Kingdom’s cause

As I walk from earth into eternity.”
