“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”.
Exodus 14:14
There is something special about watching a nurturing Mom in “Mom mode”. Sometimes it is the hug and wiping away of tears or even fear. At other times there is the tone used when trying to keep your child safe. We might pull the “Mom card”: the authoritative voice, that is working hard to tell children no matter their age, “Danger! “.
There is a little bit of “Mama Bear” in all women. We will protect fiercely those we love. When my protective side would show itself when my kids were younger, they would BEG me to stay away from school, their teacher, or boss. And yet, I believe children secretly love knowing Mom will fight for them.
These are also a part of God’s care for us. The Holy Spirit often hugs us and wipes our tears- we can feel His presence even though we cannot see Him.
God also uses the voice and presence of the Holy Spirit to be a guardrail for us. He knows the pressure of the world and of the danger ahead. In God’s Word, we can read how to keep our hearts and minds out of a dangerous place. We learn that though the enemy never wants us to feel safe in God’s care, provision, and close eye; He is for us and will fight for us.
Our God of comfort, God of protection and provision, our God who is FOR us, is the One who fights for us, leading the way against the enemy.
I am thankful for the strong and loving presence of the women in my life. I’m thankful for my Mom and Grandmother who never wavered in using the “Mom voice” for my protection.
As women following Christ, may we remember God is FOR us and God FIGHTS on our behalf. I pray that we will confidently walk daily in His presence, leaning into those characteristics He has given us to be children who honor their Mother; to be the mom, grandmother, and great grandmother who fight against the enemy on our knees for those we love.
Be blessed in the days ahead. We look forward to seeing you with the family on Sunday.
