Choosing to Follow God
“And you will love the Lord your God. You will obey him.
You will remain true to him. The Lord is your very life.”
Deuteronomy 30:20
We make thousands of choices every day, a lot of the time not even realizing. What to wear, what to eat, what song to listen to, to keep the lights off or on. How we are going to treat others, to tell the truth or not. Sometimes for the daily tasks, we make choices that might not have a right or wrong answer.
In the Book of Deuteronomy, chapter 30, Moses speaks to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land. He places a clear choice before them: life or death, blessing or curse. The heart of that choice is simple—will they follow God or turn away? When it comes to decisions like this, there is only one correct choice. And that choice will set the path for the rest of our lives. Verse 20 reminds them that choosing God is not just about rules or religion. God Himself is their life. When we cling to Him, we choose the path that leads to purpose, peace, and true life.
Choosing God everyday:
- Love Him – Our relationship with God begins with love. Not forced obedience, but a heart that desires Him.
- Listen to His voice – God guides us through Scripture, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
- Hold fast to Him – Life brings trials, distractions, and temptations. Choosing God means staying close, even when it’s hard.
Choosing God is not a one-time decision; it’s a daily commitment. Every day we face small choices that shape our spiritual path:
- Will I spend time with God or ignore Him today?
- Will I obey His Word or follow my own desires?
- Will I trust Him with my future?
Each decision is another opportunity to choose life by choosing God.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father,
Help me to love You with all my heart. Teach me to listen to Your voice and hold tightly to You in every season of life. When I face choices today, guide me to choose the path that honors You. Remind me that You alone are my life. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Jordan Roth
