There’s a Whole Lot of Sacrifice Going On
Numbers 28:1,2
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the people of Israel and say to them, ‘My offering, my food for my food offerings, my pleasing aroma, you shall be careful to offer to me at its appointed time.’”
This week as we continue our journey through Numbers, I don’t know if you’re anything like me or not, but I open another day and think to myself, “Ugh, more sacrifice.” Why, do you suppose God, via Moses took so much time to describe all the ritual that would become part of the annual calendar of the nation?
Each sacrifice was designed to offer only one of the following two things, as I have been able to determine. The first aim was to destroy the dividing effect of human sin so God and human would be able to live in harmony and relationship again overcoming the impact of rebellion. The second reason is to worship God. He deserves to be worshiped. Our worship should be extravagant. The worship aspect of the holy days, feast days, and fast days were all extravagant. For this people group who had worship happening all around them but finding themselves always pushed aside for their production expectation had to feel so much different.
Jehovah invited them to rest, invited them to party, invited them to give something up for his name-sake, and invited them to enter worship as a part of a community, generations embracing the Creator as Lord.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we don’t have to offer hundreds of animals in sacrifice to God every given year. I still don’t want to miss the deeper point. My sacrifice has been offered. Jesus became the once-and-for-all sacrifice so I could be in relationship with the Eternal God. But, there’s more—my sacrifice of worship is ME. I offer myself to God as my extravagant gift. My present plans, my dreams for tomorrow all become my gift to Christ so he can feel the weight of my worship. Let the worship begin.
Prayer for Today:
Father, I receive the sacrifice of King Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world with gratitude. Father, I give the sacrifice of myself as a sacrifice worthy to be received by his throne.
Blessings,
Pastor Wes

March Missions Focus
Easter Offering
The Easter Offering supports the World Evangelism Fund (WEF) of the Church of the Nazarene.
The WEF is the foundational financial system for the church’s global missions and ministries. Established in 1923 as the “General Budget” and renamed in 1997, it serves as the essential operating system and infrastructure that sustains thousands of missionaries, pastors, and outreach programs worldwide.
Nazarene Global Week of Prayer
March also highlights the Nazarene Global Week of Prayer, typically held during the first week of March.
This special week calls the worldwide Church of the Nazarene to:
- Pray for international districts and missionaries
- Seek God’s provision for global mission funding
- Unite together in focused, intentional intercession
Focus on Missions Giving
Throughout March, we will emphasize:
- Faith Promise giving
- Special offerings
- Ongoing financial support for missionaries
These efforts align with the overall mission of Nazarene Missions International (NMI): mobilizing the church in prayer, education, and giving.
Be watching for upcoming details regarding our Faith Promise service and guest speaker.
