Walk With Me

Walk With Me

Walk With Me

And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. (Leviticus 26:12 ESV)

Leviticus, for many of us is a challenge. What’s going on in the text? There’s so many instructions that seem to be pointless. When you offer a wave offering or a grain offering, or a sin offering, you have to do it this way.

And somewhere in the middle of all this my brain clicks into drone mode and I read through the text not paying much attention, thinking that I’m doing this just to be doing it, but for real…is there anything here for me?

The instructions for this nation of priests opens this morning and I’m reading the list of blessings that God wants to provide for obedience. I get to verse 12 and my breath is caught in my chest. “And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people…”

The God who desired to walk with Adam in the garden, is the same God who instructs his priesthood in Leviticus. He is the same God who through Christ walked with his disciples and is the same God who in 2 Corinthians 6:16 desires to walk with his people. “Walk with me,” he says.

A friend and I meet at a trailhead nearby, enjoying the scenery and wildlife that frequents our path. Every time we meet, we learn more about each other and our varied stories and the conversation often leads to spiritual lessons we’re learning too. The trail directs our steps, but our conversation is ungoverned. I’m a better man because of the winding turns of our conversation. The discipline of the trail is met because it is shared. “Walk with me,” my friend says.

I met God today in Leviticus where I was reminded that he desires to meet me at the trailhead and walk with me there. He always has desired to walk with me through the meandering direction of his will as we journey together, not listless, purposeful on his part—His Spirit and my spirit stepping in communion. “Walk with me,” my God says.

Prayer for today:

Holy God, I meet you here at the trailhead of my day. I don’t know the direction you intend for our hike. You do. I fall in step with you, guide me as we walk together. Direct my steps and our conversation as I seek to follow your will for me. Amen.

I LOVE YOU ALL!
