I like to buy those “Jesus Calling” books when I am out junking. You know going to thrift stores. It’s one of my favorite things to do. If I can pick them up for one or two dollars, I am a happy camper. I love to have them on hand. If they are leather, I feel I hit the jackpot.
I was going to give one to a person having surgery, but she already had one. I went home and set it on my desk in the kitchen. The desk is one that my parents gave me. Wyatt gets the left 2 drawers and I get the right. The drawers are just perfect for pens and pencils or for Wyatt’s keys. So, there is where the “Jesus Calling” book sat. I usually take it to my office, but it just didn’t get that far.
We had some men come in to do some plumbing work. It wasn’t a crisis visit. But more of a planned visit that we do every year. It was a Friday and I left to do some errands. Visited two people and took one lady to Walmart. I get home and find out one of the men needs to come back the next day which is Saturday. On Saturday the man returns and does what he needs to do, and we started visiting. He showed me a picture of his Harley. It is big, but so is this man. I told him about one of my brother’s friends, who was a Hell’s Angel rider and how he gave this skinny little girl a ride on his Harley. It was exciting. That happened a long time ago. So here we are in the present, visiting with this young man. He told us about his wife and family then it happened. I handed him my “Jesus Calling” book that had been sitting on my desk. There is no doubt what the book is about. He looks at the front cover for a second, then he says, “I’ve been meaning to take care of this.” What a statement! I’ve been meaning to take care of this. I thought for a split second that he might hand it back to me, but no he didn’t. He asked instead if we would pray for his buddy that is in the hospital. Yes, it would be our privilege. What a beautiful time this was. I keep thinking of this verse.
Be ready at all times to give an answer. 2 Timothy 4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
I always want to help someone get started on their Journey with Christ. Do I have time to take a Million souls with me? It might be slightly exaggerated. We always have to be ready to respond in a moment of time.
