He Calms Your Storm

He Calms Your Storm

Last night at church during the devotional with the children we discussed Mark 4:35-41. We focused our discussion around verses 38 and 40.

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Mark 4:38

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:40

As we began our discussion I asked the children to identify what storms they have been facing in their own lives.  Then we continued to identify with the feelings of the disciples in Mark chapter 4. As we discussed the children shared that they have had their own storms of loneliness, frustration, and unclear futures.  They admitted that sometimes they feel afraid like the disciples did, but they know that they can find comfort in knowing God can calm the storms.

As we closed the lesson we prayed together with a fill-in-the-blank prayer.  Many times in our lives we need to be given fill-in-the-blank prayers to use on our prayer list.  We are faced with so many storms of life and it is normal to need to repeat some prayers throughout those storms. Below I have shared the prayer for all of you to keep on your prayer list when you encounter the storms of life.

Dear God,

You remind me over and over in your Word that you are always with me. You tell me not to fear and you draw me close into your presence. You’re the only place I can find peace in the storms that surround me right now Lord. Today Lord I give you my storm of __________________ and let you have control.  You’re the only place I can find peace and strength. Thank you for your goodness, and for knowing my plans when I struggle to see them.

Amen

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalm 46:1-2

Blessings,
