It’s a famous phrase at our house. When someone is obviously asleep, one of us will say in a rather loud voice, “Are you awake?”Seriously? They were NOT awake. But someone had something to say, and wanted to be sure their important thought was heard. I’m not going to say which family member I am talking about. 🙂
“Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong. Everything should be done in love.” I Corinthians 16:13 (Common English Bible)
I know that there are times when the Holy Spirit is saying to me, “Are you awake?” There is something he wants to communicate to me. His message is important. This scripture is like a red “post it” note of reminders. Reminding me to stand firm. Reminding me to be aware. Reminding me that my responses and actions should be done in a spirit of love.
It is a fairly simple message of directives. There is nothing unclear about them, or a thought that is difficult to understand. AND YET…
Here is my prayer for each of you this day. May you hear the voice of the one who knows you best and loves you most. I pray that when you hear the words “Stay awake”, you will remember that God is the one who will ultimately conquer Satan- and in the meantime, we need to be watchful.
I pray that the through the power of the Holy Spirit you will be brave and strong as you run your race today.
May your responses to the humans around you today be given with love. It is always possible that the Jesus others see or hear in your voice today will be the most loving response they receive.
